How to Grant User Access with SSO
Last updated July 21, 2026
If your organization uses Single Sign-On (SSO), granting a user access to Spokn requires a two-step process.
This is a common point of confusion — especially when promoting a user to a Creator or Admin role — so this guide walks you through exactly what to do.
Why Is This a Two-Step Process?
When SSO is enabled, access to Spokn is controlled in two places:
- Your company’s internal IT system (SSO provider)
- Spokn account settings
Because SSO is a security measure set up by your organization, updating a user’s role inside Spokn alone is not enough. The user must also be assigned to Spokn within your internal SSO system.
If only one step is completed, the user may be blocked from accessing Spokn.
Step 1: Update Access in Your Internal System (SSO)
Most companies that use SSO require an internal request to:
- Assign a user to the Spokn application
- Add the user to the appropriate access group
- Approve elevated permissions (such as Creator or Admin)
This usually involves:
- Submitting a ticket through your internal IT system
- Or contacting your IT team directly
If you're unsure of the process, your IT team can guide you.
⚠️ This step is required because your organization has chosen to manage app access through SSO for security purposes.
Step 2: Update the User’s Role in Spokn
Once the user has been granted access through your internal system:
- Log in to Spokn as an Admin
- Go to Enterprise Tools → Users
- Select the user
- Assign the appropriate role:
- Contributor – Can record videos
- Creator – Can create and edit their own stories
- Admin – Full access to manage content and users
Both steps must be completed for the role change to take effect.
Common Scenario: “Why Is My User Still Blocked?”
If a user is unable to access Spokn after their role has been updated:
- Confirm they’ve been assigned to Spokn in your SSO system
- Confirm their role has been updated in Spokn settings
In most cases, access issues occur because only one of these steps was completed.
